We stand with Ukraine!

Regional website Poland

Although people's lives here, in Poland seem to go on as before, it's hard to say that it's normal when the fight for Ukraine is right next to us. We know well that the war is going on; there are now over 300 refugees in Nowa Ruda alone, and their number is constantly growing. Therefore, to make it a easier for them to find themselves in the new reality, Umicore Nowa Ruda offered material and financial assistance.

We don't look away; we help

Even though some time has passed since the outbreak of the war, and the fundraisers hosted at that time helped many people, a large number of refugees are still seeking help. For this, they need everyday items, food, and new clothes, which they often cannot afford. As a conscious neighbor, we want to help those in need, so we contacted the local authorities to ask how we can support the refugees in Nowa Ruda.

Having learned the scope of their needs, we made the first donation with a value of 32,000 PLN, so that children from Ukraine staying in Nowa Ruda could receive winter jackets and shoes. The items went to facilities inhabited by Ukrainian citizens: the Tourist and Sports Center in Nowa Ruda, the Parkowa Hotel, and several residential premises.

In solidarity with Ukraine

However, this isn’t the end, because another donation - this time in the amount of  250,000 PLN, was transferred to the Municipality of Nowa Ruda sub-account with the initiative: "Help for refugees from Ukraine.". Its purpose was to cover the current needs of refugees from Ukraine, such as the purchase and transfer of the most important articles and medicines and the provision of medical care and medical transport.

The symbolic handing over of the check took place on December 22, 2022, in the Town Hall in the presence of the Mayor of Nowa Ruda, Mr. Tomasz Kiliński. The Deputy Mayor, Mrs. Marzena Wolińska, and the Head of the Civil Affairs Department, Mrs. Barbara Postrach, were also present. The check was personally handed in by Umicore's Plant Manager, Dr. Stephan Noll, who was accompanied by our Administration Specialist, Natalia Oberska.

Our donations will provide comfort and relief to people suffering from displacement, injury, and loss. At the same time, we encourage everyone to help the Ukrainian community in their way. Even the most minor help matters!
