Umicore in Nysa recognized as a 'Good Employer 2022'
On 22 November 2022 Umicore in Nysa was awarded the title 'Laureate of the Program Leaders of Social Responsibility - Good Employer 2022'. The title confirms that the company is sensitive to the needs of its employees and the local communities.
The Good Employer award was granted by Forum Biznesu after having assessed Umicore’s approach of staff development, equal opportunities, benefit package, health and safety conditions as well as their relationships with the local communities in Nysa. “We are very proud of being recognized a Good Employer,” explains Wiwiana Ziolkowska, Head of HR in Nysa. “We feel it’s a recognition of our efforts to not only create a safe and pleasant workplace for all our employees but also of our way of reaching out to the local communities.”
In July 2022 Umicore started cathode materials production in Nysa but the plant construction works started in 2019. Today, Umicore employs already 250 people and their number is expected to grow to 400 by the end of 2023. ”For the moment we offer various positions in the production area such as production operators, warehouse operators, maintenance technicians, production planners and more,” explains Wiwiana.

Once people signed their contract, they follow an onboarding program to get to know the company. Once fully operational, they are offered additional trainings based on their needs and desires to improve their skills. “Umicore offers more than just a contract and task list. As we are growing many development opportunities come along. We help the individual to grow with the plant and together we shape their professional future,” she says.

Umicore’s company culture is very unique and based on the values of respect, teamwork, openness, commitment and innovation. “We apply those values wider than the factory itself,” assures Wiwiana. “Creating safe and healthy working and living conditions for employees and neighbors is our top priority. Therefore, we live up to the strictest environmental, health and safety standards.” Umicore also continues to strengthen its relationships with the local authorities and the communities around the plant. “As an example, we have distributed safety jackets to all children in kindergartens in the Nysa municipality. Nowadays, we are also in touch with different schools to see how we can work together on projects that will benefit students in Nysa in the future.”
