Polish Umicore colleagues support the #GaszynChallenge
There are many heroes at Umicore. As part of the #GaszynChallenge, they fight for the health of two extremely brave warriors: Hania and Wojtuś.
What's the idea of #GaszynChallenge?
It all started thanks to Marcin, a firefighter from Gaszyn, a village located in the Łódź Voivodeship. He found an unusual way to support and engage in fundraising to help Wojtuś Howis, a boy who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy. Not only did he contribute to the medical treatment, but he also made a short challenge video where he accomplished 10 push-ups and then nominated 5 more people to continue this challenge.
The domino effect spread rapidly nationwide throughout Poland and people, institutions and companies started to participate to the challenge with push-ups and donations to Wojtuś. The incredible commitment of so many people have also contributed to supporting other sick children. For this reason, when Umicore was nominated, our employees took up the challenge with energy and without a second thought. With great willingness to help they started to act.
Wojtuś and Hania – they are being helped by Umicore employees
The children who are in need of help are at the center of the #GaszynChallenge. At Umicore we seek to contribute to the well-being of the local communities where we operate, therefore we decided to support the children in our neighborhood.
Our plant in Nysa, nominated by residents of Radzikowice, decided to help 3-month-old Wojtuś from Nysa. Wojtuś has a malignant form of adrenal cancer. The boy's hope is a very expensive treatment, including immunotherapy.
In Nowa Ruda, responding to the County Labour Office's nomination, Umicore employees were doing push-ups and squats for little Hania. Hania is a 6-year-old girl from Nowa Ruda-Słupiec who is struggling with cancer. The funds raised will help her with the rehabilitation she needs after chemotherapy.
Without the Umicore team, none of this would be possible
The challenge would have not been successful without the commitment of our colleagues at both Umicore sites. They are at the center of this action and have taken their own initiatives to support Hania and Wojtuś financially.
As a company, we are extremely proud to work with people who want to make a positive difference for future generations. At Umicore, we do not only create materials for a better life but we also operate for a sustainable future by giving back to society.
