"I enjoy the great enthusiasm I see among co-workers every day."

Can you describe your role at Umicore?

I am a Senior Lab Chemist at the Radzikowice plant of Umicore near Nysa. My role is to implement and supervise designated test methods in the analytical lab.

What do you enjoy about your job?

What I love most about my job is my tasks require both autonomy and teamwork. I also enjoy the great enthusiasm I see among co-workers every day.

What do you enjoy about working for Umicore?

Working in an international environment is valuable to me. I am in contact with employees from our sister plants in Asia on a daily basis. I also like that my job challenges me and that I can always count on my colleagues for help.

Why did you want to join Umicore?

Before Umicore, I worked as a chemist doing physicochemical analyses of liquids. I wanted to grow and learn in a new area of materials and Umicore’s laboratory offered me the possibility to analyze solids.

What do you look forward to when you begin work each day?

In a greenfield project such as the construction of the facility in Nysa, unexpected tasks come up all the time. So, on top of my daily work new tasks are entrusted to me. Thanks to the support of the team and the analytical lab manager, I can carry out all my responsibilities effectively.

What is a career highlight at Umicore?

I have a background in occupational health and safety and support the analytical lab manager in that area at our plant. This is a key element of my job at Umicore because it keeps employees healthy and avoids accidents and near misses.

Advice for new employees?

A new employee can be embarrassed to ask questions about the job itself, the organization, rules that apply. I think you should ask your questions and share your opinions and comments. By sharing experiences and observations it can become a two-way learning process where both the new and more experienced colleague get the chance to enrich themselves with different perspectives.
