In Nowa Ruda we believe in #safetyfirst!

The success of Umicore also relies on the safety and health of its people ensuring an engaging place to work. This can be achieved by various means and this time around we have organised the competition "Report an incident and win a device".

What was the idea behind the competition?

We work every day to raise awareness among our employees about safety at work and the importance to report on potentially dangerous situations. At the same time, we pay particular attention to dialogue because we believe that our colleagues' opinions are extremely valuable. Therefore, we gave our employees the opportunity to submit their views by sharing their ideas on how to improve safety based on their daily work and observations. By organising the competition we also managed to recognise their commitment to safety.

Umicore team – committed and full of ideas

Throughout September we first collected applications for the competition. The number of participants was really impressive! We were very glad to see the enthusiasm from our colleagues to get involved in improving the safety in our company. Our selection board was thus faced with the challenge to pick and choose the best from all the ideas, which resulted in a total of 15 awards. The best of the best received modern tablets for first and second place, and for the rest, we also awarded them with laptops and gift cards. Due to the CoVid19 pandemic and to respect the health of our employees, we could not hold a traditional award ceremony. However, we hope that we will soon have the opportunity to meet together again.

In fact, we all won

The best ideas were awarded, but what’s next? We do not compromise on safety and seek to create an accident-free working environment for all. Therefore, the most innovative ideas will be rigorously implemented in the coming months. We believe that they will allow us to further improve safety in our plant, which will be of great benefit to all Umicore team members.

We have once again seen that we can count on the commitment and sense of responsibility of our colleagues. We are very grateful  because our colleagues are the ones who contribute to creating a friendly and healthy place to work at Umicore.
